JT MURPHY

The Artist

JT Murphy held his first art show on October 31, 2001 in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.

He soon came to the realization that the current art scene was not supportive of his dark/urban/folk/street style. Inspired by the “highwaymen” and his longing to travel, he hopped in a van and hit the road.

On his first trip from Florida to New York City he prospered simply by setting up on street corners and sidewalks, selling his art. Bolstered by the success of his first east coast tour, he focused on the mission of getting his art on walls across America (and later, across the world). For the next several years he traveled across the country, his art sales funding his journey to new destinations, drawing inspiration for his art from his travels.

Thus far, Murphy has numerous east and west coast tours under his belt. Along the way he has sold several hundred paintings, and instructed art classes for the homeless in his native Jacksonville. He looks forward to starting a more permanent program in art instruction for the homeless. His art has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle.
